Obituary: on 22 August 2010: Louis Anthony Grech A San Francisco native and Millbrae resident for more than 40 years, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010, finally achieving the peace that eluded him this past year. He was 76. Lou's motto was, "If you're gonna do it, overdo it." And he did: leading a life marked by family devotion, hard work, unwavering faith, and a love for life - especially dancing. Louis, or Louie as he was known in the old Bayview neighborhood, was the son of Maltese immigrants Angelo and Esperanca Grech, and the youngest of five children that included his brother Joe Grech, late brother Charles Grech, and sisters Anita Blai and Frances Avanzino. Lou was a true family man: a loving husband of 53 years to his high-school sweetheart Christine Cardiel Grech; proud father to Doreen Grech, Victoria Cory, and Chrisie Wendin; and even prouder Nanu to his beloved granddaughters Isabel and Sophia. He also cherished the relationships he had with his son-in-laws Stephen Brand, David Cory, and Robert Wendin, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including godsons Steve Bianchi and Dante Andrighetto. Lou attended Commerce High School, served in the US Navy, and attended San Francisco City College, followed by a career in the meat industry at Heineman & Stern, Shenson, and Swiss American Sausage Company. Lou was an active parishioner at St. Dunstan and its Knights of Columbus chapter. Through the Knights, he proudly founded its annual Larry Bianchi Crab Cioppino fundraiser, in honor of his late life-long friend. He was also a member of the Maltese-American Social Club of South San Francisco, the Old Timers Baseball Association of San Francisco, and Friends of Marino Pieretti.4
